1998, The winners of Arts Council annual juried art show announced, Nov. 12, No. 1
TUSCALOOSA - The Arts Council of Tuscaloosa announced the winners of the 1th Annual West Alabama Juried Art Show. A record number of 44 regional artists submitted a total of 116 works of art for the juried show.
The awards are as follows:
The Purchase Award of $500 went to Diane Norris of Tuscaloosa.
A cash award of $250, in memory of Howard and Michael Goodson and Ruth Zoellner was awarded to James E. Morris of Tuscaloosa.
Two cash awards of $50, made possible by the Renaissance Gallery went to Julie Orr of Vestavia Hills and James Conner of Tuscaloosa.
Honorable Mentions were Elizabeth Prelich, Sandra Pride, Christopher Johnson and Deborah Hughes of Tuscaloosa, John Kelley of Cottondale and Anne Johnston of Northport.
The judges for the juried show were Randy Shoults from Montgomery and Barbara Crisel of Birmingham. Mr. Shoults has a Master’s of Fine Arts from the University of Alabama and is on the staff of the Alabama State Council on the Arts. Ms. Crisel holds a Master’s of Fine Arts from Columbia State University, South Carolina. She is a freelance artist and teaches part time at the Birmingham Museum of Art.
Each entrant has at least one piece on display in the Junior League Gallery, located at the Bama Theatre. This exhibit began Nov. 9 and will run through Dec. 21. A reception honoring all entrants in the Art Show will be held on Nov. 15, from 3 to 4:30 p.m. in the Junior League Gallery, on the 2nd floor of the Bama Theatre.
